Organisational Background

The Irrawaddy is an independent, non-partisan Burmese media company established in Thailand in 1993. It has credible domestic and international standing amongst its Burmese and English audiences. It publishes news, articles, views, analysis, editorial discussions, video reports, and photo essays. Since January 2016, The Irrawaddy has switched to digital media platforms in Burmese and English languages, like websites, FB pages, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, news apps, secure mobile apps, and daily e-news digest. 

Job Overview

The Irrawaddy is seeking a Webmaster who is determined, highly motivated, and capable of working in the field of web development, digital systems, and database management.

Responsibilities:

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT

  • Coordinate and consult with the Editorial Team in taking a leading role to establish priorities for web-site development, and to plan, review, and evaluate the websites.
  • Develop web page infrastructure, utilise applications to ensure effective and efficient technical performance, and assess the applicability of new technologies for organisational needs.
  • Design and upload daily news, articles, and commentaries in appropriate formats for the English online version.
  • Maintain and monitor the websites systematically and appropriately (e.g., hosting, minoring, archiving, updating, etc.).
  • Identify and promote the websites to others on the Web (search engine optimisation strategies).
  • Design, install, upgrade, configure, and repair computers.
  • Design and configure LAN, WAN, and VPN systems if required.
  • Set up and configured all internal computer systems required for the organisation’s activities.
  • Perform any other duties relevant to the role and responsibilities of the position.

ONLINE SECURITY

  • Responsible for firewall administration and overall organisational IT security.
  • Forecast any necessary improvement of the organisation’s information technology and budget and implement changes as required.
  • Develop and implement procedures for maintaining the website in accordance with legal requirements, internet usage, and security issues.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

  • Provide desktop support to staff members for software/hardware problems solving.
  • Participate in IT Supporting Team meetings.

Qualification and Requirements:

  • Preferable or beneficial for a bachelor’s degree graduate in any related field.
  • Experience in website development, database, IT and information management, preferably within a media company or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of digital systems, digital security and other related software.
  • Good language skills in Burmese and English.
  • Organised personality, good communication and computer skills are must-have.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A willingness to be flexible about the working schedule.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all professional matters.
  • Ability to work independently within tight deadlines, under pressure, and multi-tasking.
  • Previous experience in the NGO or media group will be an advantage.

Job Overview

The Irrawaddy is seeking an Office Manager who is determined, highly motivated, and capable of working in the field of Office Management, Logistics, and Administration.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations, including the coordination of administrative tasks, maintenance of supplies, and assurance of office equipment functionality, as well as managing housekeeping.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors for office services.
  • Administer budgets, expenses, and procurement in collaboration with the Finance and Human Resources departments.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety protocols, and visa processes.
  • Handle confidential information, manage documentation maintain up-to-date records, databases, and inventories.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with authorities from relevant government departments, supporters, clients, and service providers.
  • Collaborate with HR Manager to implement departmental performance management which includes developing staff development plans, conducting staff performance appraisal, and monitoring staff performance.
  • Handle organizational-related disputes and complaints in consultations with the relevant manager/director and relevant parties.
  • Identify and implement improvements in administrative processes and policy adherence to enhance efficiency.
  • Participate in and contribute to weekly/monthly editorial management meetings on management-related matters if required.
  • Assist in planning and executing team-building and office activities, such as events, meetings, travel arrangements, and appointments.
  • Perform any other duties relevant to the role and responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills in Burmese and English Languages are a must (Thai skill is a plus).
  • Minimum three years of management experience in office management, administration, and logistics.
  • Bachelor in Business Administration, or other similar educational background.
  • Ability to build a good working relationship with all stakeholders
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, especially MS Excel, Internet, Google Drive, Etc.,
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in staff management and planning.
  • Have enough knowledge about Thailand’s culture and context to deal with the local government documentation and logistics matters.

Qualifications Desired

  • Prior working experience at the management level will be considered an asset.
  • A willingness to be flexible about the working schedule.
  • Ability to work independently within tight deadlines, and under pressure as well as able to multi-tasking.
  • Good communication skills and a tactful manner.
  • Previous experience in NGO or media group will be an advantage.
