A picture obtained on March 30, 2011 from the exiled media group The Irrawady, shows General Min Aung Hlaing at an undisclosed location on December 24, 2010. Myanmar’s junta was disbanded and Than Shwe was apparently replaced as head of the army, sources said on March 30, 2011, as the country swore in a new president and moved to nominally civilian rule. Myanmar state television reported the junta’s State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) “has been officially dissolved”, quoting an order signed by Senior General Than Shwe. General Min Aung Hlaing was present at the swearing-in as Commander in Chief of the country’s army, a post held by Than Shwe until now, according to the official.
